Vendor's Description (from Readme files, web site, etc.): Instead of a single-distrubtion unlimited-connection server, we have changed the CodeBase server distribution to a royalty free 10-connection server. 10 concurrent connections can probably accomodate a 20-30 user group, as users don't always need to be connected to the server. Royalty free distribution of the server itself keeps the cost very low for client/server applications. Single-distribution and royalty free versions that accomodate 20, 50, and unlimited concurrent connections are also available. Sequiter is now shipping an ADO provider for CodeBase as well. BDE Alternatives Guide Comments: CodeBase comes with ActiveX data aware controls; which is good and bad:
There is also a TDataset-based data aware control set for CodeBase. The CodeBase server supports unlimited simultaneous connections, making it a very affordable Client/Server solution. As a DBF-based Client/Server solution, CodeBase is most comparable to Advantage Database Server. Unlike the other products here, CodeBase is not targetted specifically at Delphi; there are versions available for C++, Visual Basic, etc. Related Sites / Products Another developer has created CB4 Tables, described as "a wrapper around CodeBase that can be used as a BDE replacement for a TTable. The focus during developing this component is on keeping it as compatible as possible with Borland's TTable. Which has as major advantages that you can easily migrate to or from the BDE or other BDE replacements." Is this data old or incomplete? Visit the How To Contribute page.
